my second day in Switzerland , we've decided to go to Braunwald. A small town high up on the hills about 1 hours 20 mins south of Zurich.

Atiza admiring the view overlooking the famous Swiss snow covered mountains (taken with Nikon F100 and some cheap Kodak film)
Braunwald as you can see is about 60km from Zurich. From the Zurich main station called Zurich HB, the train will take about 1 hr 20 min to reach the Braunwaldbahn station . This should set you back around 60 CHF (RM180) for a return ticket.

Malaysian tourist who've just arrived from Zurich being all touristy taking pictures and what not
From the station at the base of the hill ,
take another special train that goes up the hill to reach Braunwald
town itself. This will cost around 12 CHF (36 RM) for a return ticket.
The train ride up the hill is about 15 minutes going up about one mile.

typical village house set on the backdrop of the imposing Todi peak which is abit hard to miss once you're up there
one of the junctions at Braunwald , detailing where to go for skiing , restaurant , hiking , hotel and etc
apart from skiing ( there's a 28 km downhill
skiing route suitable for beginner and intermediates), there are
numerous hiking opportunites from regular paved road to small hillside
path. Unfortunately we did not plan anytime for winter sports but
decided to just enjoy the postcard scenery of the small town.

Minotel hotel - a family run business since around 1880s
we've decided to go to Minotel
hotel for lunch. The hotel has an amazing porch where you get a
complete view of the mountains surrounding the area. Here's a photo
panaromic I've shot with my cheap Sony phone cam (which I had an Xpan
II or something!)

Atiza and Lisa enjoying the view from the Minotal hotel
spinach and ricotta cheese ravioli with il pomodoro sauce (tomato sauce) for lunch at Minotel
one thing amazes me is that Switzerland is
right smack in the middle of three countries that is Germany on the
north , France to the west and Italy on the south. So you'll see how
this influence their cuisine abit - usually for breakfast you'll have
crossaint with coffee (French influence) , lunch you can have some
pasta dish (italian influence) and if you're adventurous finish the day
off with loads of cheese by having a Swiss fondue. It is quite a
gastranomic affair

looking out to the mountains from the Minotel
After saying goodbye to the owner of the hotel
and took a polaroid photos of them ( i gave the polaroid to them so
they can remember me next time and give me discounts if I want to stay
there!, also it is a good ice breaker really) we headed back to Zurich
with a heavy heart...I'm not really a fan of winter and snow because I
used to study in Michigan USA for 6 years and trust me you'll be
cursing snow after few years living there but Braunwald is everything
typical of Swiss small quaint village and the weather was just nice. It
wasn't too cold , there's plenty of snow but yet there's some sunshine
(weather was nice that day) and with the breathtaking view of Swiss
mountains I know I've fallen in love with Switzerland - would
definitely come back and explore the other Alps region again...

Atiza and Lisa
Hope you guys enjoyed the series
camera geek details: all color photos are mostly taken with Nikon F100 and 50mm F1.8 AF with cheap Kodak film except for the polaroid and phone cam panaromic of course

this picture was taken around 2004 when I've visited my younger brother
in Pittsburgh. Had to take a train west to Chicago and then take
another train east to Pittsburgh. While waiting for the Pittsburgh
train - took this photo of the hall (ok i'm guilty of self-posing for
camera
)
If you've seen the movie Untouchables (last scene when they try to capture the accountant) or My Best Friend Wedding (the last scene when Julia Roberts tried to ask for forgiveness for screwing her best friend's wedding) than you should be familiar with this hall...

chicago is a lovely place
thanks for viewing..
these photos were taken yonks ago , but since these were taken B&W (tmax400 pushed to 1600) took me a while to get my lazy 'behind' to actually develop and scan these...

well this pics were taken yonks ago..only uploaded it today to cure my roti telur cravings..yummyy
Oriental City in Colindale ( on Northern Line tube ) is about 30 mins from central London. It used to be a Yaohan shopping mall (yes yaohan just like the one near PWTC , legend hotel tu..)
however biz wasnt so good so i think they folded but the shopping mall is still operating with variety asian store selling stuff (cheap computer stuff , china , chinese dvd etc) and a big oriental supermarket where you can get serai , daun kesum , lengkuas and such .. if only they have daun kunyit!! boleh masak rendang..
anyway here's two pics from that place..

there's a food court here that serves oh my god the best asian food in this part of the world.. you can get authentic roti telur here! the kuah ikan even taste better than some stupid malaysian franchise mamak in KL (sorry Lotus , Pelita fans :P)
they also have nice char keow teow also can get some nice vietnam beef noodle soup and also there's satay!!! go try the satay - it is damn good.. yum yum cooked by some makcik who's been in london for 12 years .. Puji2 satay it is called..

comforting to know you can find belacan easily in London
well there's also a big oriental supermarket.. i usually go here every friday nite with my colleagues - do some shopping then eat some good food..what a way to start off the weekend..
oklah guys if you're in london and craving some good malaysian food ..head to this place!
cheers
i'm actually used to puasa'ing abroad - spent 6 years is the US puasa'ing and Raya there also..
now puasa in London is abit different cos i'm working and all..most of the time i'll break my fast alone with some tapau'ed sandwich from the BP's cafeteria...
during lunchtime there's really nothing much to do except to go and check out the nearby parks and also shopping malls hehe..

this is Jubilee Square - there's a stock ticker there - sorta to signify that Canary Wharf is an important financial centre for London...
then i heard a rumble coming from the Jubilee Park - hmm sounds live a live music going on there...

to my surprise there's a live jazz show going! yeay..some more got guitarist (anything with guitars will turn me on - even dangdut ) haha

so i sat down at the park enjoying the show for about half an hour..the guitarist has a nice ibanez semi hollow guitar but not sure which series..

during Ramadhan , the Friday prayer is held somewhere else to accomodate the sudden surge of friday prayers goers hehe.. where were they all this while?
the Canary Wharf Islam Association arranged for an unused 18th floor of one of the buildings on Bank St to be used as a makeshift mosque. We had the whole floor to ourselves , there's no sejadah or whatever - there;s plenty of carpeting and the view from there - O2 Dome , East London and Thames River is quite nice :)
well that's all for now..later guys..
Omar
